Bringing your family on the Pensionado visa
Panama’s rules for dependents of permanent residents cover your spouse, children under 18, children from 18 to 25 who study and depend on you, relatives with a disability and dependent parents. For each dependent you show an extra US$250 a month.
Who counts as a dependent
The regulation lists spouses, children under eighteen, relatives with a disability and dependent parents of a permanent resident, and children from eighteen to twenty-five who study regularly and depend on you financially. Dependents are processed in their own section of Immigration, as dependents of permanent residents.
Executive Decree 320 of 2008, article 224
What your children receive
Dependent children of a pensionado receive a temporary permit until age 25 if they prove full-time studies. They do not obtain permanent or pensionado status themselves, except children with a proven severe disability.
Executive Decree 320 of 2008, article 202
The extra income for dependents
For each dependent you add US$250 a month to your pension, shown with an additional pension or a local bank reference. Your spouse’s pension can cover that amount.
Executive Decree 320 of 2008, article 201
What the law does not say
The pensionado rules do not state which permit your spouse or your parents receive, whether a common-law partner can be included, or whether the pensionado exemption from the B/. 250 fee and the B/. 800 deposit extends to dependents. We confirm each of these with Immigration for your family before you pay, and we tell you the answer in writing.
